“People that frequent the bars are as fickle as the wind blows. If you have lived in Austin for more than 6 months you know that bars and restaurants come and go -- only the best survive.
The Lion & Rose Pub and Sports Bar located at 701 S Capital of Texas Hwy (Inside the Village at Westlake) is yet another franchise that tries to capture the spirit of old England in the upscale neighborhood of Westlake. There is nothing old about this pub. It is fresh and clean with a good variety of traditional pub fair for the sports enthusiast and a pleasant mix of healthy salads, turkey and cheese sandwiches. They also serve breakfast anytime. You don't have to leave to get something to eat.
Make no mistake this is distinctly British establishment and football (soccer to the yanks) is all the rage in the coming weeks [the 2010 FIFA World Cup begins in June]. They will have a full venue of matches on the pitch.
One thing that the Lion & Rose has that the other sports bars don't -- a double-decker bus just like the ones in jolly old London. It is available for tours and sprees to the downtown nightlife. A brilliant idea by the owners to beat the Austin parking debacle and capture their patrons for a return trip to the pub. On this night the Rousseaus were merry making and invited a group of friends to take in the nightlife. After the tour and stop to replenish the spirits we returned to the Lion and Rose for a nightcap. The live entertainment was a duo that played a mix of folk, salsa and waltz tunes.”
