March 23: This past week on Good Taste with Tanji, San Antonio's Tanji Patton took a trip to the Lion and Rose in time for St. Patrick's Day to review our traditional Irish fare as well as some of our delicious, not-so-traditional menu items.
Join Tanji as she begins the video clip in one of our kitchens with chef Gabriel "O'Diaz" (it is St. Paddy's Day after all!), preparing a traditional Irish Pub favorite, Irish Stew - a lamb stew simmered slowly with Guinness beer, fresh vegetables and herbs.
Then experience what a growing number of our Restaurant and Pub diners are discovering - there is a perfect beer to go with each phase of your meal! Local beer expert and author Travis Poling recommends a variety of delicious beers that pair nicely with whichever meal or course you might choose!
For our Irish Stew, Travis recommends Guinness Stout, served on tap at each Lion and Rose location. Perhaps not a surprising pairing, what may be a surprise to learn is that, as Travis points out:
"People don't know that [Guinness Stout] is the original diet beer. They think of it as thick because of the nitrogen in it, but really it has almost as few calories and carbs as a lite beer."
Next, Tanji and Travis move through several of our other dishes, including a popular appetizer, one of our traditional main courses, and a favorite dessert; pairing each of them with St. Peter's Porter, Bellhaven Scottish Ale, and Chimay White, respectively.
Enjoy the video, and don’t forget to visit Tanji’s website – and pick up a copy of Travis’s book, ‘Beer Across Texas’, or catch up with Travis on Twitter.
